• 1960: At the age of 15, BRENDA LEE scored her first number one hit with I’m Sorry.

• 1964: CONNIE SMITH made her Grand Ole Opry debut.

• 1981: ALABAMA topped the Billboard Country Singles Chart with Feels So Right.

• 1992: BILLY RAY CYRUS’ number one country hit, Achy Breaky Heart, peaked at #4 on the pop charts.

• 2003: LONESTAR re-claimed the top spot on the Radio & Records chart with My Front Porch Looking In. It was the first time a song had been at number one, fallen out of the top spot for multiple weeks, then re-claimed it.

• 2006: American Idol season 5 finalist KELLIE PICKLER signed with BNA Records.

• 2008: GARTH BROOKS, wearing a Mets jersey, was a surprise guest at the final concert atNew York’s Shea Stadium, singing Shameless with the night’s attraction, Billy Joel. Also making appearances: Steven Tyler, Roger Daltrey and Paul McCartney.

• 2008: KEITH URBAN and Nicole Kidman watched The Dark Knight on its opening day at a Nashville movie theater.

• 2010: SAMMY KERSHAW and MARK CHESNUTT played Concert For The Coast in Houma, Louisiana, to draw attention to a disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

RICKY SKAGGS of Cordell, Kentucky, is 60. His awards include the Country Music Association Horizon Award and Male Vocalist of the Year in 1982 and Entertainer of the Year in 1985. Ricky is a member of the Grand Ole Opry and has scored more than 30 hits on the Country Singles Chart

Ticket demand for KENNY CHESNEY’s Flora-Bama-Jama was so big Thursday his website crashed. When it got back online, the wristbands for the show were gone in less than five minutes. The concert will take place August 16 on the Florida and Alabama border.

LITTLE BIG TOWN has joined BLAKE SHELTON’s team on The Voice. The group will act as advisers to Team Blake Shelton on season seven. Stevie Nicks will mentor Team Adam Levine, and new coach Gwen Stefani has recruited husband Gavin Rossdale to fill the role on her team. Fellow first-time coach Pharrell Williams has not announced his adviser.

TIM McGRAW slapped a woman in the face during a concert Sunda after she appeared to slap his man-parts. TMZ got video of Tim’s concert at Aaron’s Amphitheatre at Lakewood in Atlanta. You see him walk into the crowd and a sea of hands engulfs him as he sings Truck Yeah. About 44 seconds into the clip we see a woman slap Tim twice — first on his knee and the she goes in a second time and either comes close to his stuff, or makes contact with it. At 50 seconds, Tim smacks her.

Las Vegas has announced a new country music festival. The Route 91 Harvest Event will take place October 3-5 and will be headlined by JASON ALDEAN, DIERKS BENTLEY, BRANTLEY GILBERT, MIRANDA LAMBERT and BLAKE SHELTON.

On August 5 LEANN RIMES will issue a dance remix compilation of some of her biggest hits.

SHANIA TWAIN says if she were asked, she might consider doing ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.

BRETT ELDREDGE made good on a promise earlier this week when he went swimming with sharks thanks to the help of the non-profit organization Rock The Ocean. Brett says the experience was very peaceful once he adjusted to breathing under water.

Look Again To The Wind: Johnny Cash’s Bitter Tears Revisited, a tribute to JOHNNY CASH’s Bitter Tears album, is in the works. The album was released 50 years ago and sings about the rights of American Indians. Those appearing on the tribute project include KRIS KRISTOFFERSON and EMMYLOU HARRIS.

The third season of ABC’s Nashville is set to begin September 24.
