NEWS & NUGGETS

NEIGHBORHOOD DOES 2 HOLIDAYS FOR CHILD WITH TERMINAL ILLNESS _ Last week, the Van Leuvens of West Jordan, Utah, learned that their little boy’s battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia was coming to an end, as doctors found he had weeks, maybe days to live. For their neighborhood, the prognosis meant the 4 year old was going to celebrate some holidays early. It started with Halloween on Tuesday. Families on the blocked dressed up for an early evening of trick or treating, cheering Ethan along as his family pushed him in a stroller. The festivities continued with Christmas Eve on Thursday. When the Van Leuvens walked outside, they found their entire block had traded in the Halloween decorations for holiday lights. Not long after a crowd arrived on their front lawn to celebrate, a fire truck pulled up with Santa and Mrs. Clause on board.

COUPLE WITH LIMITED TIME CREATE TRUE LOVE BUCKET LIST _ Andrew and Alicia have been married for almost ten years. They have had many trials during their time together, but they also enjoy enduring laughter and love. They knew that they were made for each other right away. Alicia hadn’t dated for five years when she agreed to a date at the Franklin Cinema in Franklin, Tennessee, with Andrew. In less than a week after their first date, they returned to the Franklin Cinema, where Andrew put on the marquee, “Will you marry me Alicia?”

… Drew and Alicia are madly in love. Drew has been given a fatal diagnosis, but they are determined to spend every moment they have together fulfilling their true love bucket list.

The prognosis given by the medical professionals is “months to years.”  Andrew and Alicia have made the firm decision to spend every moment they have together loving each other with everything they have within them. They want the world to look at them and not see a struggling couple who have been given a terrible trial; They want the world to see true love, peace, and happiness.

… They’ve created the True Love Bucket List and shared it with the world. » website

It’s the country’s first mobile laundry service to give the homeless free access to washing and drying facilities. The co-founders of Orange Sky Mobile Laundry hope to achieve three things: Restore respect, raise health standards and reduce strain on resources.

MAN FIGHTS $30K CHILD SUPPORT BILL FOR CHILD THAT’S NOT HIS _ The State of Michigan is ordering a Detroit man to pay tens of thousands of dollars, or go to prison. The reason? He owes back child support for a child that everyone agrees is not his. Carnell Alexander says he learned about the paternity case against him during a traffic stop in Detroit in the early ’90s. The officer told him he is a deadbeat dad, there was a warrant out for his arrest. But he knew he didn’t have a child. The state said he fathered a child in 1987, and ignored a court order to pay up.  It was the first Carnell had heard of the court order. He’d never even met the child. The court told him to get a DNA test but it wasn’t easy. Alexander didn’t know where the woman was that had claimed he fathered a child. He only had an 8th-grade education, off-and-on employment at the time, and no money to hire help. He asked the court for help, but the court couldn’t help him in the way he was asking. Friend of the Court employees are not allowed to give legal advice.

… Eventually he, by chance, ran into someone he knew would know where the woman was, and got a DNA test. It proved what he had been saying all along: the child he had never met was not his. The mother had realized that, and the real father was in the child’s life. Alexander took this information to court. The judge was unmoved.

… Carnell’s ex had a baby, and didn’t know who the father was. She was struggling to care for the child. When she applied for state assistance, the case worker told her she had to name the father. She said she didn’t realize the state would go after the father to pay the support given to the child. She asked the court to forgive his debt. They forgave the portion of child support allocated for her, but not the other half.  Alexander still owes about $30,000 to the state. He has refused to pay, and now is being threatened with legal consequences.

COUPLE ACCUSED OF TRYING TO SELL CHILD AT GAS STATION _ Police in Hammond, Louisiana, are still trying to figure out exactly what happened after a bizarre 911 call that sent them searching for a man and a woman who may have been trying to sell a girl at a gas station Friday morning. The woman is accused of trying to sell her daughter, who is believed to be around 10 years old. A female 911 caller stated while she was at the gas station, there was a dark-colored van with Florida license plates. The van was occupied by a man, a woman and a girl. The caller added the woman appeared to be pregnant. They were begging people for money for food and gas and ultimately came to one person and offered to sell the 10-year-old child. A BOLO (“be on the lookout”) alert was put out for a 2005 blue Dodge Caravan with a Florida license plate (BSXR89).

DRUNKS POINT LASER AT POLICE CHOPPER _ Some drunk revelers at a backyard party near Birmingham, England thought it would be fun to point a laser at a helicopter flying over their house. Unfortunately for them, that helicopter belonged to the National Police Air Service, who guided a beat cop to their house. Laser strikes can temporarily blind pilots. In the U.S., where laser strikes are a felony, 3,960 laser incidents were reported in 2013. This past March, a California man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for pointing a laser at a helicopter belonging to the Fresno Police Department. Video

NEIGHBORS LEAVE ANONYMOUS NOTE ABOUT CRYING BABY _ Young moms have enough on their hands, but imagine coming home one day to find a nasty, anonymous note stuffed into your mailbox from a neighbor complaining about your crying baby. But that’s exactly what happened to 26-year-old Trish LaForty last Thursday when, after a family day out at the beach, she came back to find a handwritten message: “You may be able to ignore your baby crying but we are tired of listening to him crying non-stop all day.” LaForty, who lives in the small town of Coolum Beach in Queensland, Australia, says she has no idea who left the note.

… But LaForty didn’t take the insult lying down. She posted the note on her Facebook page along with a response of her own — a response that received hundreds of Facebook “likes” along with a string of supportive comments. She Facebooked: “To whoever wrote this note: thanks. Like being a parent isn’t tough enough… You didn’t even have the guts to come knock on our door. FYI Our baby doesn’t cry ‘all day’, he cries when he doesn’t want do go to sleep, when he’s getting his nappy changed and when I say ‘no’ because I refuse to let him be spoiled and run around like he owns the joint. If you’d like to chat more, feel free to pop in. You obviously know where we live.”

IS THE SEXY EBOLA NURSE COSTUME FOR REAL? _ (See today’s Image of the Day.) Someone tweeted a twisted Halloween costume: sexy Ebola nurse.  The price, supposedly on a British website, was 45 pounds. While the UK website Metro claims it’s fake, someone found a site that appears to be selling an actual “sexy ebola nurse costume” for $60. » site link

SISTERS ACCUSED OF ROBBING 85-YEAR-OLD ‘SUGAR DADDY’ _ An 85-year-old man from New York City reportedly decided he wanted to enjoy the company of a much, MUCH younger woman. So Paul Aronson reportedly set up a profile on SeekingArrangement.com, otherwise known as that website you go to when you either want to find a sugar daddy or sugar mommy OR are a sugar daddy/mommy who wants to find a much, MUCH younger companion who won’t expect you to walk down an aisle with her anytime soon. In this case, Aronson reportedly got more than he had bargained for: 17-year-old twin sisters responded that they wanted to hook up with the senior — before allegedly tying him up and stealing his money.

… After exchanging messages with Shalaine Foster on the website, he reportedly asked her twin sister Shaina to dinner in Manhattan. The sisters, both of whom reportedly have been in trouble with the law before, showed up at the restaurant together. Aronson allegedly asked them both to return with him to his townhouse so they could have a few cocktails. Once at his house, the man reportedly gave them raspberry-flavored Bacardi rum and, according to the girls’ attorney, the man had more in mind for them than just dinner and drinks. Police say the girls tied Aronson to a coffee table, where he remained alone for 20 hours until a friend found him. After tying him up, the teens allegedly stole his credit cards and $470 in cash. They then went on a shopping spree and purchased makeup. Shalaine and Shaina have been charged with kidnapping, robbery, burglary, grand larceny and assault.

BRITISH WOMAN DIES AFTER SHADY BANGKOK BUTT SURGERY _ A 24-year-old London woman died on a Bangkok operating table during a follow-up to butt augmentation surgery. Joy Williams traveled to Thailand earlier this month for bargain-basement $3,000 butt implant surgery. Unfortunately, rear soon became infected and she returned to the clinic last week to have it removed. After being given aesthetic, Williams stopped breathing. The doctor was charged with negligence in connection to Williams’ death. The clinic was properly licensed for the procedure, but the doctor — a general practitioner — was “not qualified to perform surgery.”

CHIHUAHUA THROWN AGAINST STARBUCKS WINDOW _ A Chihuahua thrown against a Starbucks window in Houston has shocked animal lovers. A man callously threw a four-pound dog against the glass of the coffee shop so hard it sounded as if the glass was about to break. Police say the dog is recovering and in good care. Larry McHale was arrested. It’s unknown if the dog belongs to McHale. He allegedly threw the innocent dog in a spiteful rage against the store’s manager, Jasmine Hyder. He accused him of caring more about animals than humans. Hyder says he banned McHale from going into his Starbucks store for the last three months because he was harassing customers all the time and would start chaos.

WOMAN CLAIMS SHE FAKED DEAFNESS TO KEEP BOYFRIEND _ Some people go to outrageous lengths to keep something from their boyfriend or girlfriend, but few go as far as a waitress in Kodiak, Alaska. The waitress, identified only as “Tina,” dated a fisherman for nine months and pretended she was deaf the entire time without her guy finding out. The woman narrates this bizarre story in a frankly ridiculous reenactment on My Crazy Love, a new series debuting October 28 on Oxygen. Tina says the first meeting was like slow-motion, mainly because she was shocked there was actually an attractive single guy in Kodiak, Alaska. “I was frozen,” she said on the episode. “I don’t know why … but I look at the guy and say, ‘I’m deaf.’ He just looks down at me, grabs my shoulder and yells ‘My name is Chris.'” Tina says it was a whirlwind romance where the couple communicated by texts and body language. Tina kept up the charade, which was made easier when Chris went on a three-month fishing trip. It was tough to stay in character: “If a door slams, you’ve got to not look. If a dog barks, you have to be really careful not to look or anything. Cross the street and you have to pretend you can’t hear the horn honking at you.”

HOMOPHOBIC DUDE GETS TAKEN DOWN BY PASSENGERS AT AIRPORT _ If there wasn’t enough to worry about at airports these days with the threat of terrorism and Ebola, we really shouldn’t have to worry about some jerk starting fights in the terminals. At Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport a guy began verbally abusing a fellow passenger for wearing a pink shirt. He began spouting homophobic slurs and then kicked the man in the groin and punched him in the head. That’s when several bystanders jumped on the homophobic idiot and tackled him to the ground. Over 100 years after their deaths, an artifact from his journey has surfaced. New Zealand’s Antarctic Heritage Trust reports that they have found a notebook which tracked Scott’s last Terra Nova Expedition. The notebook belonged to a surgeon, photographer and zoologist named George Murray Levick, who accompanied Scott.

CLAIM: CRACK PIPE AT ASHLEY GREENE’S APARTMENT AFTER FIRE _ Twilight star Ashley Greene’s apartment in West Hollywood burned down last year, taking the life of Greene’s beloved toy fox terrier as well as damaging several apartments near her unit. In a deposition obtained by TMZ, Greene’s building manager says a glass crack pipe was found during cleanup. In the building manager’s (Adrian Mayorga) sworn deposition, he says that the crack pipe was discovered while the apartment was being searched for her remaining possessions. The fire was reportedly started by a lit candle igniting nearby fabric.

… ASHLEY GREENE: CRACK PIPE STORY NOT TRUE _ Sources close to Ashley Greene are fighting back against claims by Adrian Mayorga, the manager of her West Hollywood apartment building, who alleges in court papers that a crack pipe was found in the aftermath of the March 2013 fire that started in her home. The building’s owners and several tenants are suing Greene, along with Mayorga, who says he suffered permanent respiratory damage and that a glass crack pipe was found in the actress’ apartment. The building manager says in his court papers that as Greene, her brother and her “current boyfriend, Ryan Phillippe” made it out of her apartment, they looked “disoriented,” as if they had been “drunk or under the influence of something.”

… Phillippe, however, has sworn in a deposition that not only wasn’t he in the apartment that night, but  also that he’s never been in that building. And a Greene insider says that Mayorga’s claims are false and that he’s “looking for money” (according to Gossip Cop).

Although the hotel designed the suite to attract families, young couples who grew up with the series have been the ones booking the rooms.

In the current season of American Horror Story Twisty the Clown is the murderous man who wanders around the Florida countryside. Christensen adds that people should stop dressing like these particular performers in order to scare people.

THERE GOES HONEY BOO BOO _ The rags-to-riches fairy tale of the Honey Boo Boo clan has turned into a nightmare, as the reality TV show was suddenly and without warning cancelled by TLC, the cable station that carried the highly popular program since August 8, 2012. The reality TV show was dropped like a hot potato in the midst of allegations that June Shannon (“Mama June”), mother and personal manager of Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, had taken up with a former boyfriend, Mark McDaniel, recently released from prison after serving 10 years for child molestation. June and Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson separated in September.

… (CAUTION) TMZ broke the story that Mama June’s eldest daughter, Anna, was molested by Mark McDaniel, who forced her to perform oral sex on him when she was 8-years-old. Anna Caldwell — known as “Chickadee” on the show — is now 20 and married with a child of her own. TLC has reached out to Anna offering her help and counseling.

… Mama June took to Facebook to blast the dating rumors, calling them false.

… MAMA JUNE EXPOSES HONEY BOO BOO TO CHILD MOLESTER _ Mama June has not only been lying — she’s been exposing her young daughter to a child molester. A pic taken last month shows a smiling June sitting on a staircase as her 9-year-old daughter, Honey Boo Boo, is touched gently by the hands of a man who forced oral sex on another one of June’s children — who was a year younger than Honey Boo Boo when she was violated.

… June lashed out after TMZ posted a pic of Mark McDaniel — fresh out of prison — and her in a hotel room, claiming she hadn’t seem him since he was released from prison in March. But then the site posted pics of the two of them shopping for a house.  And then a pic of June buying him a car.

RULES FOR TEXTING. I’d like to have a law or rule that when you’re out with your kid your attention should be on him or her. Every minute or so he’d come back to his mom and ask a question but her iPhone kept winning. What are your rules for texting? Two calls to jumpstart the phones. » download

HORROR MOVIE QUIZ

It’s Halloween week. Let’s see if you know your horror films.

• What was the actual name of Ghostface’s costume in “Scream”? (Though the costume’s packaging is only shown once, and partially obscured, the name of Ghostface’s costume is “Father Death”.)

• How many people associated with “The Exorcist” died during the film’s year-long shoot? (There are tales about ominous events surrounding the year-long shoot, including the deaths of nine people associated with the production and stories about a mysterious fire that destroyed the set one weekend. Actors Jack MacGowran (who played Burke Dennings) and Vasiliki Maliaros (Father Karras’ Mother) died before the film was released.)

• What is Michael Myers’ middle name? (It is revealed in the extended TV version of “Halloween” that Michael Myers’ middle name is Audrey.)

• In the “Friday the 13th” films, which state houses Camp Crystal Lake? (Located in or near Sussex County, New Jersey, Camp Crystal Lake was most infamous for being the home of serial killer Jason Voorhees and the site of many of his murders.)

• What was the original title of “The Evil Dead”? (Sam Raimi originally wanted to title this film “Book of the Dead,” but producers changed the title for fear that kids would be turned off seeing a movie with a literary reference.)

• Which one of these famous slashers has accumulated the highest body count: Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, or Freddy Krueger? (Jason Voorhees takes home the top prize with a total 156 kills.)

• Within 5 minutes, how much screen time did Anthony Hopkins receive as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in “The Silence of the Lambs”? (Critics were impressed with Hopkins’ performance despite a screen time that is only a little more than 16 minutes.)
