NEWS ATTACK!

The Atlantic Ocean has its first January hurricane since 1938. [I hope you’ll pardon me if I don’t celebrate.]

The tiny European country of Montenegro has a seaside fortress that was used during World War II as a concentration camp. Now it’s being turned into a luxury resort. [Blotting out the past filled with the misery of human suffering in order to make money in the present — sounds like the typical divorce proceeding.]

Authorities along the Texas-Mexico border discovered half a million dollars of marijuana disguised as carrots. [That’s one way to get people to eat more vegetables.]

Fans of the St. Louis Rams have filed a lawsuit over the team’s move. [You know that there’s something missing in your life when you’re upset that the Rams are leaving town.]

Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys was arrested for getting into a Florida bar fight with the bar’s bouncer. [Would you pick Nick Carter in a fight against a bouncer? Would you pick Nick Carter in a fight against a bouncy castle?]

Health officials delivered some good news. Cruise ship passengers are getting sick less often. [Unless, of course, they’re aboard the S.S. Chipotle.]

Montana wildlife officials say that they will relocate around 40 sage grouse to the Alberta, Canada side of the border. [The birds had sneaked across to the American side without proper documentation.]

A Philadelphia man is suing the people behind the hit TV show Empire, claiming that his idea was stolen. [I’m sure that there will soon be a counter lawsuit. It’ll be a case of Empire strikes back.]

Police in Pittsburgh are looking for two men who robbed a motorist and then tried to carjack his vehicle, but had to flee on foot because neither knew how to operate a stick shift. [If there’s one thing that I can’t stand, it’s people who don’t know how to do their job.]

Snoop Dogg was chilling at home went he suddenly went on Instagram to post a quick rant at Bill Gates after Xbox Live went down. [He also had a few choice words for that guy who owns Papa John’s when his pizza was late.]

NEWS & NUGGETS

MICHELLE OBAMA WILL NOT RUN FOR PRESIDENT _ Apparently, folks have been wondering whether or not First Lady Michelle Obama will be taking a page out of Hillary Clinton’s book by running for president in a few years. That’s probably not going to happen. President Obama made this crystal clear while at a town hall in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Thursday. When asked he exclaimed, “No! No, no, no. Let me tell you, there are three things that are certain in life: death, taxes and Michelle is not running for president.” He did, however, promise that Lady O will be a very active former first lady.

IDIOT HOPES PEACE CONCERT FOR ISIS WILL WIN OVER TERROR GROUP _ An Oregon folk singer plans to leave next week to serenade the Islamic State, and he intends to bring the black-clad barbarians a prayerful message of peace. James Twyman, of Portland, said he feels a “calling” and believes he can soften the hearts of the Islamist army known for beheading Westerners, throwing gays off of buildings and  executing innocent women and children. Twyman, who calls himself the “Peace Troubadour,” leaves January 20, and plans to stop in Italy before heading to Israel. From there he will cross over the northern border shared with Syria to a small Druze village. While that village is occupied by Israel, Twyman said he has contacts there trying to set up a venue in ISIS-controlled territory. Either way, the show is set for January 31.

WIDOW’S LAWSUIT TARGETS TWITTER FOR HELPING ‘RISE OF ISIS’ _ An American woman whose husband was killed in Jordan last year has sued Twitter, saying the company gave Islamic State militants a platform to spread their extremist propaganda, which she believes led to her husband’s death. Tamara Fields’ husband LLoyd died, along with five others, when a gunman opened fired at a police training facility in Amman, Jordan, on November 9. LLoyd Fields was working at an international police training center as a contractor at the time of the attack, training policemen from Jordan, Iraq and the Palestinian territories in basic policing and security skills.

… The lawsuit alleges that the “explosive growth of ISIS over the last few years into the most-feared terrorist group in the world would not have been possible” without Twitter. It also states: “For years, Twitter has knowingly permitted the terrorist group ISIS to use its social network as a tool for spreading extremist propaganda, raising funds and attracting new recruits.”

PEOPLE WHO ARE ALWAYS ANGRY MAY HAVE A SMALLER ‘EMOTIONAL BRAIN’ _ If you’re always angry and prone to rage attacks, researchers say you have a smaller “emotional brain”. Researchers concluded that people with this condition, called intermittent explosive disorder, have less gray matter in the so-called frontolimbic regions of the brain, structures that regulate emotions. Researchers (University of Chicago) say intermittent explosive disorder is defined as “recurrent, problematic, impulsive aggression.”

CHIPOTLE IS CLOSING ALL ITS RESTAURANTS FOR A DAY _ Chipotle will be closing all its restaurants for one day. Due to the E. coli outbreak that has been plaguing the company since October, Chipotle will shutter all its stores for a few hours on February 8 for a national all-employee meeting about the plans to eliminate the issue. The closure is to give execs time to answer questions about the outbreak and to go over a new marketing plan to bring customers back.

DONALD TRUMP’S OFFICIAL JAM IS WEIRD _ A new pro-Trump teenybopper girl group called The Freedom Girls, performed The Official Donald Trump Jam at the presidential candidate’s rally in Florida this week. It’s everything you’d hope from a Trump song: over the top, completely out of left field and so bad that it’s really, really good. The lyrics include: “Apologies for freedom, I can’t handle this / When freedom rings, answer the call / On your feet, stand up tall / Freedom’s on our shoulders, U.S.A.!” And: “President Donald Trump knows how to make America great / Deal from strength or get crushed every time.” | VIDEO

Additionally, the child’s request was rejected due to discretionary spending after the Christmas holiday.

… The rejection letter to the 6-year-old reads: “We regret to inform you at this time that we are unable to provide a loan in the amount requested of $20. WARNING LABELS MIGHT STOP PARENTS FROM BUYING SUGARY DRINKS _ A new study suggests warning labels detailing health risks associated with sugary drinks such as diabetes and obesity may convince parents not to buy these beverages for their kids. In an experiment, researchers gave 2,381 parents online surveys asking them to select a beverage for their child from a range of 12 sugar-sweetened sodas and juices as well as eight low-sugar options like water, unsweetened juices and diet sodas. Absent any health information, 60 percent of parents picked a sugary drink. But with warning labels, just 40 percent of parents chose sweetened beverages.

KEEP THE TV OUT OF THE BEDROOM _ Thinking of buying a TV for the bedroom? Think again — it could ruin your sex life. A study by an Italian sex expert has found that couples who have a TV set in their bedroom have sex half as often as those who don’t. In the study, Italians who lived without TV in the bedroom had sex twice a week, or eight times a month. This dropped to an average of four times a month for those with a TV.

WACKY-BUT-TRUE

WACKY-BUT-TRUE: OF COURSE I HAVE COCAINE UP MY NOSE _ While patrolling downtown at 2 AM, police in Aspen, Colorado, heard some odd sounds and traced them to a bench where a man was “chopping” cocaine into a line for snorting. The man brushed the powder off the bench. An officer pointed his flashlight at the man’s nose and asked if the white powder on his nostrils was cocaine. The man’s reply: “Of course I have cocaine up my nose. It’s Aspen.”

Initially an enema was administered to try and retrieve the jewellery. When this failed, officers resorted to a more unorthodox technique: he was fed more than 40 bananas throughout the day. A police spokesman said, “Eventually the chain was found. We made him wash and disinfect it.”

WACKY-BUT-TRUE: SWIMSUIT GUY CAUGHT ON CONDO ROOF _ Police in Aspen, Colorado, were summoned to a three-story condo complex early in the morning on a report of a man screaming for help. Officers found a 34-year-old man wearing a swimsuit who said he had been drinking and partying in the ground-floor hot tub. But he didn’t know how he got up on the roof. YOU LOST POWERBALL, BUT A PSYCHIC GIVES  TIPS FOR WINNING RAFFLES

Pretty much everyone lost the Powerball lottery. So change up your game and start enjoying local raffles and charity drawings. Harriette Knight, who calls herself a “Master Healer” and “Psychic Medium” says winning raffle prizes is a state of mind. See what you think of these tips:

• Winning is a state of mind. If you know you always win, you always will win. A great place to test this theory is with raffle prizes. Raffle prizes are often awarded at business luncheons, charity events, or women’s groups. If there is a raffle offered, the first thing you need to do is buy some tickets. You will never win if you don’t give it a try.

•  When you look at the raffle prizes, you will get an emotional response to the things you want to win. Your mind will register that response and let your subconscious know that it is already yours. If you can picture it in your car or home, you increase your chances of making it a reality. Visualize winning the raffle prize and feel the excitement.

• In the event your number is not called, and you do not win, don’t fret. Raffle prizes go to the person they are meant to go to. There are prizes meant for you as well. Keep a spirit of fun when buying raffle tickets, and know that the money is usually going to a good cause.

• Change your tune to, “I always win!” This will increase your chances immensely, and influence your attitude in all areas of your life.

• If you don’t win a raffle, eventually you will. Keep trying your luck, and then the winning will never stop.

Er, uh, okay. But seriously, what’s the biggest raffle or charity fundraiser you’ve won?

SIGNS SHE MAY BE CHEATING

PHONER: How did you discover your leading lady was cheating on you?

We know January is the biggest month for dating websites and apps, but it’s not just single people looking for someone new in the new year. Relationship experts say many people in committed relationships secretly resolve to end what they have and find something new and “more exciting.”

AskMen.com says these are some signs your leading lady has moved on.

• She’s too accommodating. Is she suddenly encouraging your poker night with the boys? Is she trying extremely hard to please you by making your favorite meals every evening? If this is unusual behavior then guilt could be eating away at her.

• She dresses differently. This can be an obvious sign if a drastic change was made overnight. If it was a progressive shift, you may not have noticed anything out of the ordinary. Assess when she started wearing those high heels and low-cut blouses. Determine if anything else happened at the time of this change: Did she get a new job? Did she lose weight? Then, decide whether you consider this normal behavior or if it’s a drastic change in her usual dressing pattern.

• She’s overly defensive. You ask her a simple question like “What did you do today?” and suddenly she’s tripping out. If she appears edgy when you ask her insignificant questions about her day and then accuses you of being controlling or nagging, this could be a sign that she has something else cooking.

• She makes new friends. Making new friends can be a good thing, unless she isn’t introducing any of them to you. And if she won’t reveal where they’re going or if she’s giving you vague details, then these so-called “friends” are something you should be concerned about.

• She reveals too much. She tells you all the details of her night out with her friends, including what they ate, who was there and who said what. This is all information you probably wouldn’t care about on any other day; you may even wonder why she’s telling you all this trivial stuff. Heads up: This information could mean a lot if you read between the lines.

• She initiates strange conversations. She starts asking you hypothetical questions like “What do you think of people who have affairs?” or she begins telling you about a “friend” who is cheating on her boyfriend. This could be her way of gauging your reaction to her cheating ways.

• She’s mean to you in public. She’s getting nasty, making fun of you to your face. And it’s not the “I’m just kidding” type of fun. She picks on you in front of your friends. Something’s probably up, as couples should have each other’s backs in public. It could be that she’s coming out of her shell and you’re her target. If she’s cheating, she won’t feel the need to be nice to you anymore. Think about it: she has someone else on the side, why should she worry about you?
