The Archbishop of Philadelphia announced that he will only allow communion to divorced and remarried Catholics if they refrain from having sex with their current spouses. [Won’t that simply lead to another divorce?]

Donald Trump told his supporters that one way or another Newt Gingrich will definitely be a part of a Trump presidential administration. [Is it just me or does it seem as if Trump goes out of his way to say whatever he can to keep from being elected?]

An unidentified animal ran into a Rhode Island Walmart and bit several customers. [Then it got into the express lane with way more than 10 items.]

A new study shows that American yards are shrinking because American homes are getting larger. [Hey, it’s better to live next to a vacuum cleaner than a leaf blower.]

New research shows that Neanderthals ate each other. [It was the beginning of politics.]

The next UK prime minister will be a woman. [Oh sure, vote to leave the EU then get a woman to deal with all the packing and unpacking.]

Travel and Leisure has released the list of the rudest American cities. I was surprised that the top 10 included Salt Lake City. [You would think that it would be against their religion.]

NEWS & NUGGETS

TENNESSEE SEN. SUGGESTS IVANKA TRUMP FOR VICE PRESIDENT _ The two remaining presidential candidates are busy preparing for their party conventions — and trying to decide who will be their running mates. Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee — who removed himself from the VP running on Wednesday — suggested that Donald Trump pick his daughter Ivanka as his running mate. Corker told NBC News: “His best running mate by the way would be Ivanka. I know that wouldn’t pass muster probably but I don’t know if I’ve met a more composed, brilliant, beautiful-in-every-way person.” Ivanka even has the support of her brother Eric, who told Fox & Friends on Thursday that his sister has “certainly got my vote.”

• “These are really crunchy… They don’t taste gross but are a bit salty for me…”

THE SHOOTING OF ALTON BROWN DID NOT HAPPEN _ There are a number of people on Twitter who are very concerned with the well-being of celebrity chef and television personality Alton Brown. PICKING UP POUNDS STILL BETTER THAN SMOKING _ Research suggests former smokers may gain more than 20 pounds after they kick the habit, instead of the five to 15 pounds commonly cited. BEYONCÉ CALLS FOR ACTION IN THE WAKE OF DEATHS _ Beyoncé has posted a message on her website calling for action after the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. The singer’s official website now displays a statement mourning “these robberies of lives” and urging readers to contact their local politicians. • LINK

… At the end of the statement, Beyoncé told her followers to contact their representatives to let their voices be heard. Alongside the statement was a link to contact members of Congress. EDITOR: As of Thursday night the link wasn’t working — likely overloaded by the increased traffic.

BEYONCE HOLDS MOMENT OF SILENCE DURING CONCERT _ After posting a letter on her website in response to the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, Beyonce asked the audience at her Glasgow show Thursday (July 7) for a moment of silence for victims of police brutality. The singer also projected dozens of victims’ names on a giant screen onstage, including Sterling and Castile.

MISCHA BARTON SLAMMED FOR RIDICULOUS TRIBUTE TO ALTON STERLING _ Mischa Barton now knows that nothing disappears from the internet for good. The O.C. star turned doomed Dancing with the Stars contestant is being slammed for an insensitive photo she posted on Instagram with a caption about the death of Alton Sterling, the young black man who was fatally shot during an altercation with two policemen earlier this week. In a bizarre post captured by Us Weekly, Barton offered a tribute to Sterling, saying she is “truly heartbroken” by the 37-year-old’s shocking killing by police in Baton Rouge. Mischa also went on to slam U.S. gun laws and warned voters to make a change and find a “real President.” She wrote: “This may have been going on forever in the United States but thank God the pigs get caught on camera now. It’s unthinkable and an embarrassment to America. The country I was brought up in. Somebody make change. We need gun control and unity…”

… Unfortunately, while Mischa Barton’s post may have been well intentioned, the actress came under fire due to the unusual photo she posted with the caption. In the pic, Mischa is wearing a bikini and sipping a cocktail on a yacht.

… The post is no longer on her Instagram account but there are screenshots.

JIM CARREY BLASTS RELEASE OF GIRLFRIEND’S AUTOPSY REPORT _ Jim Carrey is angry after the release of information about his ex-girlfriend Cathriona White’s suicide. In a statement issued Thursday Carrey slammed the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office’s release of information from its autopsy report on White. Carrey said: “When I came to Hollywood to make it as a comedian, I soon learned that the details of my private life would be handed out to the media like free dinner vouchers. I never dreamed that the people I love most in the world would also be on the menu. What a shame.”

SULU IS GAY IN STAR TREK BEYOND, GEORGE TAKEI CALLS IT UNFORTUNATE _ George Takei has reacted to the news that his classic character Sulu is revealed to be gay in the new movie Star Trek Beyond. John Cho plays the role in the current film franchise and he said the character development is a nod to Takei, who is openly gay in real life. Cho says, “I liked the approach, which was not to make a big thing out of it, which is where I hope we are going as a species, to not politicize one’s personal orientations.”

… But Takei has called it “unfortunate” as it was not part of creator Gene Roddenerry‘s original vision. Takei explains: “He was a strong supporter of LGBT equality. But he said he has been pushing the envelope and walking a very tight rope — and if he pushed too hard, the show would not be on the air. I’m delighted that there’s a gay character. Unfortunately, it’s a twisting of Gene’s creation, to which he put in so much thought. I think it’s really unfortunate.”

TAYLOR SWIFT DID NOT GET BREAST IMPLANTS _ Taylor Swift did not get breast implants. We think. Recent photos shows a larger Taylor than we’ve been used to seeing. But friends say she just wears a really good bra — and bathing suit top — at times.

… The stories started during Taylor Swift’s Fourth of July festivities over the weekend where she was spotted hanging out with her new boyfriend, Tom Hiddleston, and her upgraded girl squad at her Rhode Island home. Swift was seen looking bustier than she normally does in a red bikini top that featured the word “America” across the front.

… An inside source says the reports about America’s sweetheart enhancing her breast are entirely false.

TAYLOR SWIFT ACCOMPANIES TOM HIDDLESTON TO AUSTRALIA _ Taylor Swift and boyfriend Tom Hiddleston landed in Sydney, Australia early this morning (Friday). T-Swift has accompanied T-Hidd down under where he is about to start working on his new movie Thor: Ragnarok, reprising his role as Loki.

After the couple enjoyed spending time with their three kids over the 4th of July holiday, sources claim Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck could be headed for a reunion.
