MAN SEEN IN VIDEO TANGLING WITH PELICAN _ Hunter Hardesty is now Internet famous — and not in a good way. The Maryland man is seen in a video that seems to show him tangling with a federally protected pelican. Hardesty posted the video to his Facebook last week with the caption, “Yeah, they bite hard.” • VIDEO
… Hardesty posted his pelican video from Key West, Florida. The clip shows Hardesty, wearing a T-shirt and shorts, leaning over the edge of a pier with what seems to be a small fish in his hand. The pelican swims over to take a look, and that’s when Hardesty jumps into the water on top of the bird. Both Hardesty and the pelican go under water for a moment. When they come back up, Hardesty is holding the bird in two hands, and you can hear men laughing off-camera. A woman’s voice orders Hardesty to get out of the water right away, or else, she says, she’ll call security. At that moment, the pelican whips its head around and bites Hardesty, who gets startled and lets the bird go.
… A spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the agency is looking into whether Hardesty will face any charges.

… One of the beneficiaries of the cookbook boom are bookstores that specialize in selling cookbooks, whether new, vintage or antiquarian. A popular concept in cookbook focused bookstores is to combine book sales with author demonstrations.
That’s a specialty at Read It & Eat, a shop in a Chicago neighborhood. The bookstore, which is four years old, has long shelves of cookbooks from around the world, and a test kitchen where recipes from the cookbooks are tried out.

SHELTER IS SEEKING A ‘GUIDE HUMAN’ TO HELP DOG THAT WENT BLIND _ Staff at an animal shelter in England (Evesham) are looking for a ‘guide human’ to adopt an unlucky dog that suddenly went blind overnight. Alex, a four-year-old terrier, arrived at an animal welfare center in October and soon became a hit with rescue center staff. But a short while later they noticed Alex was walking into things. It was then confirmed that Alex had gone blind as a result of detached retinas — with vets saying his eyesight would tragically never return. Now staff members at the animal welfare center are trying to find a home for Alex and say his new owners will have to act as ‘guide humans’.
… The staff have already trained Alex for a life with blindness. For example, they’ve applied lavender oil to his harness so he’s learned to recognize when it’s near his head — and then he gets to go for a walk. They’ve also taught him to lift his paw when there’s a step in front of him so he doesn’t trip over. And because he loves to play, they got him some balls with bells inside so he can hear them and knows where they are.

It turned out to be an older woman in a senior position who was up for a promotion. Except instead of getting the promotion, she was fired.
… The pregnant woman’s lunch was being prepared lovingly each day by her husband — a chef. In an attempt to stop the food thief the mom-to-be put notes on her containers: “Please stop taking my food. I am pregnant and breastfeeding and this is negatively affecting my health.

THE 4-DAY ICE CREAM CLEANSE _ If you’ve ever tried to lose weight you’ve probably at least considered a cleanse. Have you ever thought of an ice cream cleanse? Consult your doctor first, but know that this cleanse doesn’t mean a three-times-a-day trip through the Baskin Robbins drive-thru.
… Fans use a vegan, coconut-cream based, raw, organic, non-dairy ice cream. They eat up to five pints a day for four days straight. One fan of the ice cream cleanse says you’re “feeding your body not only the raw saturated fat from the coconuts, but living nutrients from the fruit and superfoods present in the ice cream. Raw honey used to sweeten the ice cream is a double whammy of amino acids and living enzymes, which aid digestion and reduce inflammation…”

CAPTAIN MARVEL ORIGINALLY PUNCHED A LITTLE KID _ Captain Marvel has finally arrived in theaters, and we got to see the reason our superhero punches and old woman on a commuter train. Co-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck shared that the train ride was heavily inspired by the 1971 thriller The French Connection, which also features a car pursuing an elevated train. The directors were particularly inspired by the idea that Carol Danvers would step onto the train to look for her suspect, but also be well aware that because Skrulls can shape-shift, her target could be anyone. That meant they were free to simply pick from any number of options and launch a fight scene. As the film’s first trailer heavily showcased, the eventual choice was a sweet-looking old woman (played by Marilyn Brett) who smiles at Carol before Carol draws back and punches her in the face.
… Initially they thought about Captain Marvel punching and fighting a little kid. Then they decided to go with the most innocent person you could imagine, a glasses- and sweater-wearing grandma.

THINGS WIVES SHOULDN’T DO WITHOUT ASKING THEIR HUSBANDS FIRST
• Throw out his ratty old T-shirts. Look at it this way, ladies: you know you’d be annoyed if he ever dared throw out your “I swear I’ll be skinny enough for these again one day” jeans.
• Plan a girls night. Husbands don’t care you’re going out, but it’s common courtesy to check in with your significant other before setting up a night out.
• Hitting up the joint account to buy something for yourself. No, you shouldn’t have to check in with the hubs every time you want to go grocery shopping. But if you have a joint account the idea is that the money will be used on things that benefit both parties. If you’re thinking of splurging on something that’s for you and you alone, do what you’d hope he’d do in the same situation.
• Plan a family vacation. Family vacations are for just that — the FAMILY. All adults involved should have a say in where you go and when.
• Invite company to the house. What if he wants to spend a nice Saturday in his PJs on the couch? Not the best time to invite your BFF and her whole family over, huh?
• Throwing a playdate. Both husband and wife deserves to weigh in on whether some strange kid will be sitting on the couch when he or she gets home from a hard day at work.
• Start an extreme diet. You don’t need his permission to get healthy but if you’re going to suddenly ban all carbs from the house, it’s best to make sure the other adult is ready to say bye-bye to bread.
